Humans are wired for storytelling. It is how we learn about and relate to the world around us. From movies, to campaign speeches, to restaurant recommendations from friends, we experience and share stories everyday that shape our thoughts and actions.
At Stand for Children Indiana, we know that everyone has a story to share that can make positive changes for public school students. It begins with you tapping into what personally motivates you to be part of this movement for justice and equity.
If you didn’t already know, how well students perform in 9th grade can predict their future success.

Need help getting started? Consider answering one of these questions (or prompts) for your video:
- Did you or your student struggle during your ninth grade year? If so, how did that impact the rest of high school?
- Tell us about your 9th grade year! What teachers, classes or programs made a difference in your experience? What opportunities or resources do you wish you had access to?
- Did you know the importance of 9th grade? If not, do you wish you would have?
- Why do you want to support this effort to ensure our high schoolers are set up for success?
- Why do you believe ensuring our ninth graders stay on track is more important than ever?
The data and research are crystal clear: ninth graders who end their first year of high school with enough credits to become sophomores are three to four times more likely to graduate on time – the linchpin for success in life. This ninth-grade indicator is a better predictor of high school success than all other factors, including race, income, zip code, etc.
